Preparing the room
Before any sanding begins, we carefully prepare the working area.
Furniture should be removed from the room, and we ensure the floor is ready for restoration by checking for protruding nails, loose boards or any issues that need addressing before sanding starts.
Protecting your home is just as important as restoring your floor, so we always work carefully and respectfully throughout the project.
Professional sanding
Using professional-grade, virtually dust-free sanding equipment, we remove old finishes, scratches, stains and surface wear.
Rather than completing the floor in a single pass, the timber is sanded through a series of progressively finer abrasives. This gradually refines the surface while preserving the natural beauty and character of the wood.
The result is a smooth, even floor ready for any necessary repairs and finishing.
Repairs and gap filling
Once the timber has been exposed, any repairs become much easier to assess.
Where appropriate, we can replace damaged boards, secure loose flooring and carry out gap filling using the most suitable method for your floor.
Not every floor requires repairs, and not every gap should be filled. We'll always recommend the approach that offers the best long-term outcome.
Fine finishing
Before any protective finish is applied, the floor receives its final sanding stages. This creates an exceptionally smooth, consistent surface and prepares the timber to properly absorb oils or provide the perfect base for lacquer. Attention to detail at this stage has a significant impact on the overall appearance of the finished floor.
Applying the finish
With the preparation complete, it's time to protect the floor. Depending on your preferences and the way the room will be used, we'll apply either a premium hard-wearing lacquer or a natural oil finish. Both options are designed to protect the timber while enhancing its colour, texture and natural grain.
Curing and aftercare
Once the final coat has been applied, the floor needs time to cure properly.
We'll provide clear guidance on when it's safe to walk on the floor, move furniture back into the room and begin normal use.
We'll also explain how to care for your newly restored floor to help maintain its appearance and maximise the life of the finish.
